All proceeds from the sales of our Deadly pizzas are being donated to the MQ Indigenous Student Association. $12, available from Friday 28th until Thurs 3rd from 11am. UBar are proud to support the week and offer a limited edition “Deadly Pizza” - a Lemon Myrtle infused Chicken & Mushroom Pizza. The theme recognises that more people are speaking up, asking the hard questions, and informing themselves about issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, and calls on others to follow their lead by reflecting on their own contributions and striving to do more. This year's theme More Than a Word asks us all to consider how we can achieve reconciliation on the practical, everyday level, beyond one week a year. Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. Healing Country means embracing First Nation’s cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia's national heritage, and that the culture and values of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders are respected equally to the cultures and values of all Australians. It is a celebration of what’s been achieved and acknowledgement there is much more to do. The artwork includes communities, people, animals and bush medicines spread over different landscapes of red dirt, green grass, bush land and coastal areas to tell the story of the many ways Country can and has healed, throughout people’s lives and journeys. Using the 2021 NAIDOC Week theme, ‘Heal Country’ as inspiration, the chosen artwork: ‘Care for Country’ (designed by Gubbi Gubbi artist, Maggie-Jean Douglas) is bright and vibrant, and explores how Country has cared for and healed First Nations people spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially and culturally. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. Ubar proudly supports and acknowledges NAIDOC week 2021.
